How we select offers

Every offer goes through the same review before it appears on Finmart. These four criteria decide its placement.

01

Total cost of credit

We look at the interest rate together with the initiation fee, monthly service fee and insurance, not only the advertised rate.

02

Registration and compliance

We only list credit providers registered with the National Credit Regulator.

03

Transparency

Lenders that publish their fees and a representative example rank higher than those that do not.

04

Payout speed

How quickly the money actually reaches your bank account after approval.

How we make money

Finmart is free for you. We receive a commission from our partners when you apply for a product through our links. This may affect which products we show and in what order, but not how our editorial team evaluates them.

Frequently asked questions

Does it cost anything to compare loans on Finmart?

No. Comparing is free and with no obligation. Finmart is not a credit provider and does not grant loans — we show you our partners’ offers and forward you to them if you are interested.

Will comparing loans affect my credit score?

No. Browsing and comparing offers on Finmart does not create a credit enquiry. A lender checks your credit record only when you submit an application to that lender.

How do I know a lender is legitimate?

Check that the lender shows an NCR registration number (it starts with NCRCP) and that the number appears on the National Credit Regulator’s register. A legitimate lender gives you a written quote before you sign and never asks for an upfront fee.

How much can I borrow?

Short-term lenders typically offer R500 to R8,000, repayable within a few days to 6 months. Personal loans and loan matching services go up to R250,000–R350,000 over as long as 72 months, depending on your income and credit record.

What do I need to apply?

Usually a valid South African ID, 3 months of bank statements showing your salary, a bank account in your name and a cell phone number. Some lenders verify your income directly through your online banking instead of asking for documents.

How are the offers ranked?

By default, by our editorial rating and user demand. You can change the order yourself, for example by interest rate. Where a placement is based on a partnership, we say so.
